The 5-Step Amazon Selling Playbook

The 5-Step Amazon Selling Playbook is our framework for successfully launching and growing brands on Amazon. We developed this framework over 8 years spent helping dozens of brands launch and grow on the Amazon marketplace.

We learned what it takes to sell successfully on Amazon, usually through painful first-hand experience. We organized our experiences into a repeatable process that we call our Amazon Selling Playbook. The Playbook gives brands the best chance at success, simplified into a step-by-step guide for selling on Amazon.


How Did We Get Here?

Over the first several years of our business, we tested out several business ideas where we were able to learn the necessary skills and gain the necessary experience to build an Amazon-focused agency.

We first started out by selling products on Amazon that were purchased from retailers like Walmart, Kohl’s, and other physical and online retail stores. Next, we reached out to brand owners directly to sell their products on Amazon as their exclusive resellers. After that, we opened up our own small 3PL (3rd Party Logistics) business that provided storage, product prep, and shipping services to brand owners and manufacturers who didn’t want to run their own warehouses.

None of these businesses were very successful, with some of these ideas losing large amounts of money in the process. However, we were able to gain firsthand experience of each aspect of selling on Amazon, which built the foundation of what would become the yourAMZ you know and love today.


Amazon Strategic Partnership Services​

After several years of trying and testing out different business ideas, it became clear that we could provide the most value to brands as an Amazon Strategic Partner. We began providing Amazon business and marketing services to brand owners who wished to launch and grow their businesses on Amazon.

Most of the brands we worked with saw very positive results, seeing big growth in both revenue and profit. We were able to exceed expectations for these brands, who were happy to continue working with yourAMZ for years and give us referrals that grew our business and reputation.

However, a small number of brands that hired us did not see positive results. We applied the same experience and expertise to their businesses as we did to the businesses that saw great results, but we were unable to make progress. This led to frustration for us and the brands that expected to see their businesses grow on Amazon.

We needed to closely examine why some brands saw amazing results, while others didn’t. What was happening in the successful projects that was not happening in the unsuccessful ones? How could we put our customers in the absolute best position to succeed time and time again?

What we learned is that the successful projects followed a step-by-step process for Amazon success. The unsuccessful projects skipped important steps in the process. For example, if a customer wanted to spend money on ads but didn’t want to optimize their listing pages first, we would happily take on that project and try to boost sales through advertising spending alone. However, without optimized listings we would not see the growth in sales and profitability we expected.


A Different Approach

Though our failures were painful, we were forced to personally experience the pain sellers go through when trying to sell on Amazon. We had first-hand experience of the entire process, from setup to inventory management, advertising, and customer service.

We now had the ability to help brands with all aspects of selling on Amazon. But how do we turn all that experience into a process that we could follow, repeat, and improve on with each new brand we worked with on Amazon?

We spent the next 2 years working diligently to build a 5-Step Framework that could work every time for any brand we worked with. We refined this process with dozens of real brands on Amazon. In time, we simplified our strategy down to an easy to follow, repeatable playbook for successfully selling on Amazon.

Step 1. Account Setup

Create your account, create your listings, and get access to tools.

Step 2. Retail Ready

Design listings that convert. We call these listings “Retail Ready” since they are optimized to produce sales.

Step 3. Set Your Targets

If you don’t track the right metrics, you don't know if you're winning or losing. In this step, you pick the correct metrics for your goals and then start accurately tracking those metrics.

Step 4. Gain Market Share

Your products are Retail Ready, and you are tracking the correct metrics. It’s time to start sending paid traffic to your listings and getting sales.​

Step 5. Expansion & Profit

You will increase your margins and total profit by expanding your reach, increasing your customer lifetime value, and lowering your costs.
